Annie Ronald & Isabella Forrest Launching

The Annie Ronald & Isabella Forrest was a 35'6" Liverpool class boat, driven by a single 35 hp Weyburn AW6 petrol engine.  This lifeboat had been built in 1936 for the St. Abbs Lifeboat Station.  Her first effective service at Llandudno took place on 4th October, 1959 when she was launched at 1206 with second coxswain Samuel Lloyd-Jones in command, when a rowing boat with four men on board got into difficulties off the Great Orme in very choppy seas and a strong southerly wind.  The crew rescued the four men and towed their boat back to the beach with the men being landed at 1240.  The boat was called out again that afternoon, being launched at 1346, again with  the second coxswain in command.  The casualty was a small boat, the Aires", which was in difficulties three miles off Penmaenmawr had two men on board.  They were rescued and with their boat were put ashore at Penmaenmawr.   The Coastguard then radioed the lifeboat reporting a small yacht believed to be in difficulties in the area, but despite a thorough search no yacht in need of assistance was found and the lifeboat returned to Llandudno at 1640.

In January, 1961 Gordon Bellamy took over as coxswain.  During that year the tractor T31 was replaced by another Case L tractor T33.  Also in 1961 the Llandudno Lifeboat Station celebrated its Centenary and on Sunday, 5th July a Service of Thanksgiving was held at Holy Trinity Church, conducted by the Venerable Archdeacon Gwynfryn Richards.  During this service the Deputy Chairman of the RNLI, the Hon. Valentine Wyndham-Quin, presented a "Centenary Vellum" to the Honorary Secretary, Mr Thomas Taylor, who handed it to Coxswain Bellamy for safe keeping.

The last effective service by the Annie Ronald & Isabella Forrest took place on 7th September, 1963 when she was launched at 1345 to attend a small yacht in difficulties off the Orme's Head Lighthouse.  The lifeboat had been about to launch on exercise to go to Colwyn Bay to take part in an RAF "Wings Day" display  when it was learned that the yacht, which had two men on board, had been trying to get to Rhos-on-Sea.  The lifeboat took her in tow then continued on to Colwyn Bay arriving at 1500.  Some 45 minutes later the Coastguard called coxswain Bellamy on the radio to inform him that a yacht was in difficulties off Rhos.  It was found to be the same yacht in trouble again and the lifeboat towed her ashore.  The lifeboat was then called to the assistance of a Yacht Club Guard Boat which had gone to the aid of a capsized yacht.  After standing by for the while the lifeboat towed the yacht to the shore before finally returning to the station again at 1930.
