3rd February, 2005 Penrhyn Bay - Angel Bay 1640 hrs
The ILB was launched after the Coastguards received calls reporting a 30 foot whale in distress having become entangled with a buoy's rope The whale, a fin or a minkie, got into difficulties off Penrhyn Bay. After about 30 minutes and as darkness was falling the crew managed to cut the rope near to the whale's tail The whale then made a hasty escape and it is hoped the remaining part of the rope will eventually work itself loose and fall off. With the whale being twice the length of the ILB there was always the danger that it would go under the boat and capsize it The ILB safely returned to station. |
