West Shore, Llandudno - 1535 hours

Windy with choppy sea

 

The ILB was requested to launch following reports of two people and a dog on the West Shore sand banks and an incoming tide.  The ILB was taken to the West Shore when they met the coastguard.  The people managed to get back to the shore unaided and the ILB wasn't launched and returned to station at approximately 1405 hours.

10th February, 2008

North Shore, Llandudno  -  1256 hours

Calm with mist

 

The ILB was requested to launch following reports of a fishing canoe with one male on board who was in difficulties.  The ILB attended the scene and found the canoe had capsized and because of the weight of the fishing gear how could not right the canoe.  The ILB found the man clinging to the rocks and brought him ashore in the ILB and towed his canoe ashore.  The man appeared to be exhausted but otherwise alright on return to the shore and no medical assistance was required.  the ILB then returned to station at approximately 1320 hours.

10th February, 2008

North Shore, Llandudno  -  1340 hours

Calm with mist

 

Shortly after returning the Coastguard again requested the ILB to launch because four canoeists had been observed vanishing in the sea mist.  The ILB quickly located them and guided them safely back to shore.  Visibility at the time was about 25 yards.

16th February, 2008

North Shore, Llandudno  -  1316 hours

Slight sea - good visibility

 

The ILB was requested to launch to attend a broken down jet ski in Llandudno Bay close to the Little Orme.  The two peoples with the jet ski - one male and one female - were in the water when the ILB arrived.  One person from the jet ski was taken on board to ILB and the jet ski was towed back to shore.  No-one was injured.  The two people were handed over to the care of the coastguard on arrival at the shore.  The ILB then returned to station at approximately 1345.

17th February, 2008

North Shore, Llandudno  -  1815 hours

Slight sea - dusk

 

The ILB was requested to launch by Holyhead coastguard to go to the aid of kayaker who was stranded part way up cliffs below Marine Drive on the Great Orme between the lighthouse and squatters rock.  He had been stranded there for two hours and was extremely cold.  Because it was dark and cold it was decided to call in the helicopter which arrived from RAF Valley at 1915 hours and airlifted him off aided by the lights from the ILB.  The helicopter landed him further up the headland where he was handed over to the coastguard.  He did not need medical attention but was extremely cold.  The ILB returned to station at about 1935.

18th March, 2008

Colwyn Bay - 0825 hours

 

The Coastguard requested the ILB to prepare to attend an incident at Colwyn Bay.  The incident was resolved prior to the ILB leaving the boathouse and the crew were stood down.

25th March, 2008

 

The ambulance service contacted coastguard reporting that they thought there was someone in the sea.  The coastguard alerted Llandudno Lifeboat Station but it turned out to be a false alarm and neither boat left the boathouse and the crew were released.

1st May, 2008

West Shore - Llandudno - 1715 hours

 

The ILB was requested to go to the assistance of a sand surfer who had suffered an injury whilst surfing on the sand on the West Shore.  The casualty suffered a suspected fractured collar bone. The Police and Coastguard were in attendance and the casualty was placed of a stretcher which was placed across the ILB and was then towed up the beach to a waiting ambulance.  The ILB then returned to the boathouse.

3rd May, 2008

Colwyn Bay  -  1850 hours

 

The ILB was requested to launch following reports of a man lying on the beach at Colwyn Bay when there was a rising tide.  The ILB launched at Llandudno and headed round the Little Orme.  On arriving at Rhos Point they were informed that the Police were dealing with the man on beach so the boat returned to station at approximately 1920 hours.

3rd May 2008

Llandudno - Great Orme  -  2106 hours

 

The ILB was launched following two separate reports of two white flares being seen in the Pentwn area.  The ILB made a search of the area between the pier and the lighthouse.  Nothing was found so they made another search from the lighthouse back to the pier but found nothing.  The Coastguard was on Marine Drive and it was felt that the flares had be fired by someone on the Great Orme.  The ILB returned to station at about 2200 hours.

11th May, 2008

Llandudno West Shore  -  1240 hours

 

The ILB was requested to investigate a man and a dog presumed stranded at West Shore.

11th May, 2008

Great Orme - Llandudno  -  1852 hours

 

The ILB was requested to launch after a woman had reported that her partner was going to commit suicide by jumping off the Orme.  The ILB made an extensive search of both the Great Orme and Little Orme but the man was later found walking in Abbey Road.

13th May, 2008

West Shore - Llandudno  -  1509 hours

 

The ILB was alerted that two people might we stranded on the West Shore sandbanks but it proved to be a false alarm with good intent and the ILB was not launched.

15th May, 2008

West Shore - Llandudno  -  1725 hours

 

The ILB was called out to go the assistance of a man and a dog stranded on West Shore.

24th May, 2008

Great Ormes Head  -  2315 hours

Moderate Seas - Force 6-7 North East

 

The ALB was requested to go to the aid of a 39' yacht - Four Belles - situate north east of the Great Orme.  There was one man and one woman on board and the yacht was heading towards Conwy when it suffered engine failure and was having difficulty making headway in poor conditions.  The crew of the lifeboat put a tow on board the yacht - a difficult task in the rough weather.  The lifeboat towed the casualty in to Conwy marina and returned to Llandudno at 0530 hours.
