Crew Honoured
Four members of Llandudno Lifeboat Station have received an award for going to the aid of whale in distress on 3rd Fenruary, 2005. The whale had become entangled in a mooring buoy and was extremely distressed and tired whist trying to free itself for the buoy which it had dragged all the way form Northern Ireland. The inshore lifeboat launched with crew members Nigel Forest and Tim James on board together with an RSPCA Inspector. The whale was about twice the length of the inshore lifeboat but despite the danger of the whale capsizing the boat the crew managed to cut the rope near to the whale's tail. Being free the whale then swan off without a backward glance. The two crew members together with station mechanic Les Jones and Lifeboat Operations Manager Marcus Elliot all received Certificates of Commendation from the RSPCA.
