Guild News 2005

The members of the Guild were saddened to learn of the death of their Vice President, Mrs Joey Yates, on 22nd December, 2005.  Joey joined the Lifeboat Guild in 1968 and served as a committee member until 1972.  She then held the position of secretary for the next three years.  In 1980 she became vice chairman, a post she held until 1998 when she became vice president.   Joey received the RNLI's silver badge in 1991 and gold badge earlier this year.  (She is pictured further down this page receiving her gold badge from Captain Woodall.)  During her years with the Guild she organised various functions and was always out with her collecting box on flag day.  For many years she sold souvenirs in the kiosk on the pier and after the kiosk closed helped out most Sundays with the stall on the prom.  A few years ago ahe was mugged when leaving the kiosk and had to spend some time in hospital.  However, it didn't put her off and as soon as she was able she was back in the kiosk once more.  Her funeral took place on Wednesday, 4th January, 2006 at Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno followed by interment  at the Great Orme Cemetery.  Joey will be sadly missed by all her friends in Llandudno Lifeboat Guild.
