Conwy Harbour - 1320 hours

Poor Visibility with Rough Seas

The ALB was requested to launch to assist the 50’ yacht ‘Predator’ with three people on board, which become entangled in ropes and a mooring buoy chain in Conwy harbour, having been blown away from the pontoon in near gale force winds whilst attempting to moor alongside.  The strong winds blew the boat sideways across the river towards Deganwy where its rudder became entangled around another boat’s mooring, which saved it from being driven ashore  Conwy’s ILB moved several smaller boats from their moorings to make space for the Andy Pearce to get closer to the casualty and secure a towing line.  Once free the casualty was towed into Conwy Marina.  Conwy’s ILB then replaced the small boats they had moved and returned to station whilst the Andy Pearce returned to Llandudno at approximated 1600 hours.

Off Great Orme  -  1850 hours

The ALB was requested to launch to go to the assistance of a 32 foot blue hulled speedboat which was in difficulties 2 miles north east the Great Orme.  The call was received by Holyhead coastguard via a mobile phone call.  The caller reported total engine failure with no power and no lights except for a torch.  The coastguard requested the Seaking helicopter from RAF Valley to join in the search and also put out a radio call for any shipping in the area to look out for the casualty.  The Lady Gwen was fishing in the area and proceeded to search the area together with the ALB and the helicopter.  The helicopter was running low on fuel and returned to Valley at 1945 hours.  There was no trace the casualty despite a thorough search and the ALB was stood down at 1950 hours.  As the mobile phone number given was not a registered number it was presumed that the call was a hoax.  The ALB returned to station at approximately 2030 hours.
