27th January, 2009

North Shore, Llandudno  1609 hours

Calm

 

The ILB was requested to launch to assist Police to search for a male who left a local pub at 1330 hours threatening to jump off the Orme.  The ILB made a full search of both the Little Orme and the Great Orme but nothing was found and they were stood down at 1700 hours  It’s believed the male was later found by the Police away from the shore.

14th February, 2009

North Shore, Llandudno  -  1158 hours

 

The Coastguard requested the ILB to stand by to possibly assist with regards to an incident at the sailing club slipway on Llandudno’s North Shore.  The fire service and Coastguard were in attendance and the ILB was not required and were stood down at 1210 hours.

10th March, 2009

West Shore, Llandudno  -  1000 hours

 

The ILB was requested to launch to got to the aid of kite surfer.  The alarm had been raised by someone on the shore.  The 20 year old male had been kite surfing off the West Shore when the wind died and he was left stranded.  He attempted to swim to shore but was having difficulties due to the drag of his kite.  The ILB quickly recovered him and took him ashore.  He was very tired but otherwise uninjured.

12th March, 2009

Colwyn Bay - 1313 hours

 

The ILB was requested to launch to assist a broken down 13 ft. speedboat with one male on board.  The boat was against the promenade seafront some 300 metres east of Colwyn Bay pier.  The ILB took the boat in tow to the Colwyn Bay slipway where both the boat and male on board were landed safely.  The ILB then returned to station at 1415 hours.

30th March, 2009

Colwyn Bay  -  0013 hours

 

The ILB was requested to launch after lights had been seen in the bay by a CCTV camera.  The Police helicopter searched the area but found nothing so the Coastguard requested the ILB to launch and make a search of the area.  The ILB was taken by road to Colwyn Bay pier where it was launched and spent 30 minutes searching the area but nothing was found.  It was assumed that the lights seen by the camera was a reflection.  The ILB was stood down and returned to station at approximately 0100 hours.

4th April, 2009

Great Orme - 1002 hours

North Westerly 5-6 - Moderate Sea

 

The Coastguard requested the launce of the ALB after an 18’ cabin cruiser with one man on board suffered engine failure ¼ mile west of the Great Orme lighthouse.  The ALB attended the scene and took the casualty in tow to Llandudno Bay where the man’s son met them with the trailer and recovered the cabin cruiser.  The ALB returned to station at approximately 1115 hours.

2nd May, 2009

Colwyn Bay - 0040 hours

 

The ILB was requested to launch to go to the aid of a male who had been walking on the rocks by Colwyn Bay Pier and got is foot trapped in the rocks and there was an incoming tide.  He used his mobile phone to call for assistance and the Police and Fire Service were in attendance.  The man was released and put on a stretcher on the ILB where he was taken to Rhos Harbour and handed over to the care of the other emergency services.  The ILB returned to station at about 0600.

15th May, 2009

Rhos-on-Sea  -  1623 hours

 

The ILB was called to an incident at Rhos-on-Sea.  Three persons had set out in a recently purchased inflatable boat and the outboard engine failed about a mile off shore.  The ILB towed the casualty back to to shore.  The ILB returned to station at 1720 hours.

25th May, 2009

Great Orme, Llandudno  -  1625 hours

 

The ILB was requested by the Coastguard to go to the aid of an inflatable with one man on board where the outboard engine had failed.  The call was made by the volunteers manning the RNLI souvenir stall on the promenade when the man’s brother was concerned at not having heard from him for some time and didn’t know if his mobile phone had stopped working or if he was in trouble.  The ILB quickly located the man who was trying to row against the current back to Llandudno.  The man and his boat were taken onboard the ILB and brought back safely to Llandudno where they arrived at approximately 1645 hours.

29th May, 2009

Llandudno Bay  -  1434 hours

 

The Coastguard requested the ILB to launch following a report that a person had jumped off the pier  The ILB launched at 1440 hours and located the man at 1443 hours.  He was landed safely ashore at 1446 hours.  The man, who was from Penmaenmawr, decided to go for a swim so jumped off the pier.  The lifeboat crew found him clinging to the girders underneath the landing stage at the far end of the pier.  Holyhead Coastguard commended the crew for their very fast response and completion of the incident which took less than 12 minutes.

2nd June, 2009

Colwyn Bay  -  2010 hours

 

The ILB launched at the request of of the Coastguard following calls from the public who were concerned that a man was in difficulties at Colwyn Bay.  The ILB was taken by road to Colwyn Bay where it launched and went to the assistance of the man who was in an 8’ inflatable.  His outboard motor had failed and he was rowing ashore.  He was well equipped and in no immediate danger but the ILB assisted him ashore for which he was extremely grateful.  The ILB returned to station at about 2035 hours.

4th June, 2009

Llandudno Bay - 1123 hours

 

The Coastguard were alerted by a member of the public that a person had fallen at Angel Bay.  The ILB launched and found the casualty, a male, who had fallen 25’/30’.  The crew recovered him and were able to put into practice some of the skills they had recently been learning on the currently running first aid training course.  The casualty was suspected of having a fractured leg and wrist.  He was brought ashore where he was transferred to an ambulance waiting at Llandudno slipway.  The ILB returned to station at approximately 1225 hours.
